A Guide to Religion

Religion

Whether you are looking for religious beliefs or religious practices, there are many different religions that you can choose from. You can go with a traditional religious belief or a more contemporary religion, like Animism, New Age, or Totemistic religions.

Animism

Animism is a religion, which is defined as the belief that every thing has a soul. It is a belief in the spirit world, the souls of animals, and places.

Animism can be monotheistic or polytheistic, and it can be found in many tribal religions. It has close ties to shamanism. It has been practiced since ancient times. It is an important part of Germanic-Neopaganism.

Totemistic religions

Amongst the 5.5 billion people in the world, most are religious. There are four major religions – Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism and Christianity. These faiths have some similarities. Despite differences, there is a religion for everyone.

Totemistic religions are based on the worship of a totem. The totem is a symbol, usually an animal, that represents a particular person or group. Sometimes it can even provide the owner with supernatural powers.

New Age religions

Those who have devoted some time to the study of religion have probably heard of New Age religions. These are the latest example of a cultural trend that has taken hold of the west. They are not neutral to Christianity, and many are explicitly anti-Christian.

New Age “spirituality” is generally known for its fascination with paranormal entities. They can be reached via “channeling,” which is the practice of communicating with long-deceased spirits through a medium.

Monotheistic religions

Throughout the world, different religious groups claim to be monotheistic. These religions include Christianity, Judaism, Islam and Sikhism. However, there are many differences among these religions. Some people might be surprised to know that monotheism isn’t the only form of religion. In fact, monotheism is one of the oldest religions in the world.

Monotheism originated from the Greek word theos, meaning “God”. It is a belief that a single, omnipresent, all-powerful god exists. Typically, a monotheistic deity is non-anthropomorphic, omniscient and omnipotent.

Polytheistic religions

Historically, polytheistic religions have been found in various parts of the world. In Ancient Greece, Rome, Mesopotamia and Germany, they were the dominant form of religion. But polytheism has also been found in non-literate cultures, such as the Yoruba of West Africa. These religions are sometimes referred to as historical polytheistic pantheons.

Polytheism may be considered as a type of theism, and the word is derived from Greek polus (“many”) and theos (“god”). Usually, the deities are portrayed as complex personages. They may be categorized into celestial or chthonic classes, and may have individual perceptions or knowledge.

Religious beliefs are not protected by Title VII

Generally speaking, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 protects individuals from discrimination in terms of employment, education, and other areas. This federal law also protects a variety of religious practices. It is the law’s obligation to accommodate religious practices of employees.

The EEOC has issued updated guidance on reasonable accommodations for religious beliefs. This includes an internal accommodations form that is available to employers. The EEOC emphasizes that religious beliefs should not be dismissed in favor of personal preferences or political philosophies. It is also important to understand that Title VII’s definition of religion is very broad.
