What does Entertaiment mean?
The word “entertainment” derives from the Medieval Latin intertenere, which means to hold inside. In entertainment, the idea is to engage a participant’s sense of wonder and fascination with a theme, image or structure. Entertainment can be any activity that provides a diversion or amusement for an individual or group. Entertainment may take the form of movies and television; music, including playing or listening to musical instruments, attending concerts or singing; sports and games; reading, writing and poetry; and visual arts.
It is thought that the human brain was evolved to react deeply to certain themes in entertainment. These include backstabbing, murders and other social themes that have become staples of popular culture and media. These themes are a part of our collective societal entertainment and give us a good feeling when they are well done.
