Entertainment is anything affording pleasure, diversion, or amusement: a concert, play, or other performance; an agreeable occupation for the mind (such as solving a crossword puzzle); a pleasant or amusing habit or custom (as in smoking cigars); an amusement park. The word comes from medieval Latin intertenere, formed from the prefix inter meaning “inside” and the suffix tenere, a form of the Indo-European root ten, which means to hold or retain.
